Read: Duterte is officially Running for President
Looks like we wouldn't have to wait until December 10 for that "something to look forward to" as Duterte has just announced his bid for the highest post this May 2016 elections.
The Davao city mayor confirmed his presidential candidacy over an interview, saying "Yes, I am running."
Though this might be a contrast over his previous firm statements that he has no desire to be a president due to his wife's wish and his old age, Duterte has had a change of heart after Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) voted against petitions to disqualify Grace Poe with the conflict on her Filipino citizenship.
"What made me decide to run? Was it an offer for money? No. Gusto ko lang sabihin sa lahat stop with the Philippines. Nothing against Grace but if you run for the highest post in the land, it must be reserved for a true-blue Filipino;
Give me an Igorot, an Aeta, a plumber. Kahit ano basta Pilipino. It is a matter of principle. Pagka ganun my candidacy for the presidency is on the table."
In addition, Rody Duterte will be having Alan Peter Cayetano as his running mate and is seeking the blessing of his partymates from the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
