PNoy encourages Filipinos to be inspired by Rizal’s heroism
MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III on Wednesday urged Filipinos to be inspired by national hero Jose Rizal, and be a hero in their own way.
Aquino called on the public to reaffirm their commitment to "righteous path" for the common good.
"May we all be inspired by Dr. Jose Rizal’s courage and intelligence, his sense of duty, hunger for knowledge, passion for reform, and undying love of country," Aquino said in his message released on Tuesday.
"Let us all be heroes in our own way, and reaffirm our commitment to the Daang Matuwid. Only by traversing this road towards fairness and progress can we translate our dreams into tangible realities for our people,” he added.
For the commemoration of Rizal’s 119th martyrdom on Wednesday, Aquino also reminded Filipinos about Rizal’s hard work and sacrifices that helped in shaping the nation and the country at present.
Aquino said the country celebrates every December 30 to reflect and remember that national hero’s sacrifices that freed the country from Spanish colonization.
The president cited Rizal’s writings and deeds as a big contribution to the country’s forefathers and united citizenry. He noted that because of Rizal Filipinos “both capable and determined to win the liberties we now enjoy.”
"Dr. Jose Rizal worked hard to pursue our independence, serving as a catalyst for change; his works remain relevant to this day, a reminder of a past when freedom seemed beyond our reach," Aquino said.
"Let us remember him on this occasion, along with other heroes who shared their strength and vision to make the Philippines the nation it is today,” he added.
Aquino led the commemoration of Rizal’s martyrdom at the Luneta park on Wednesday morning.
December 30 of every year was declared as a regular holiday in observance of the death anniversary of Rizal.
