Waris Dirie is a beautiful and successful supermodel. She is one of the African woman who has achieved her goals, but under that lies a frightening experience that she had to go through.
Dirie has been campaigning to stop FGM or the Female Genital Mutilation. When she was still a small child, she underwent the same process that is why she knows the horror of having to go through this.
FGM is a non-medical practice that has three forms which includes the removal of the clitoris, partial removal of the clitoris and labia and the narrowing of the private opening of the female private organ.
Without anesthesia, the teenage girls will be dragged to the 'woman cutter'. The relatives will hold her down, forcing her thighs to be opened wildly until the woman cutter could finish her procedure.
After doing the gruesome process, the child will be brought home and if something bad happens to her, the mother is to blame.
